I have asked this question myself and the answers I have seen make sense.
Your character creation looks/style is "hardcoded" to that character, not the account. From what I understand it was created as such part of the games security measure for the info your account uses. I know MANY, MANY ppl, posts, threads, have been discussed about the disadvantage of this system and is one function that many would like to see changed in the future.

"Security purposes" makes no sense. How is appearance supposed to secure anything? Character name + creation time already gives a unique identifier.
Sometimes games use checksums generated by character data in order to prevent character file corruption from errors, but typically those are based on data that *changes*, since the changes are what you need to ensure are correct. They could cordon off data which is static such as character name, creation time, and appearance to a separate file for efficiency purposes since this never needs to be updated, but it's already shown they have the capacity to grow dynamic account data with the addition of hero inventories and such, it wouldn't be hard to put the appearance data in this new spot.
Alot of MMOs have people wishing you could change your character's appearance after creation. I don't know one that lets you do so. The technical hurdles are small and the conceptual ones large.

for your info
guildwars eye of the north
is a registered trademark, and so is
guild wars 2
BOTH were registered BEFORE guildwars factions was registered.
eye of the north is most probably the original name of factions (or propheses)
I did a seach using DNS tools to find which domain names were hosted on the same name server of guildwars.com
follow this link to do it yourself
http://www.dnsdigger.com/?host=guildwars.com
there are 173 hosts (domain names) listed.
a couple of them can not be accounted for as they only link back to the ncsoft home page, or simply dont seem to exist.
these include
landsofaden.com
thecelestialwar.com
neomagi.com
there are loads of others.
this is the best place to check when a new guildwars web address has been registered and gone live
it may happen a few days before any official notification goes out. this is due to the fact that it can take up to 48hrs for the name server to propergate around the world.
keep a look out. this may be where the first sign appears

I know, it doesn't make sense on why it was done this way, but that is the reason behind it. The hurdles to change may be larger since it was planned and programmed that way. Either way you may want to look at it, short sighted programming or mistaken planning idea, it would be nice to if this were changed.

I'm not sure I'd really buy that. All that information is almost certainly just tables in some sort of database - probably a commercial one, since those are engineered with high demands like these in mind. And any information in a database can be easily altered.
My guess is that it's simply a matter of not being a big enough priority for anet to put the necessary resources into this. It seems like this would require a substantially complex user interface (similar to character creation - since you'd want to be able to preview any changes). It could be that issues prevent the code used in character creation screen is not so easily reused in-game, or something like that.
Anyhow, just more speculation in a thread filled with nothing but speculation. Woot!

I bet we get:
-NO new characters/ starter isle
-10 new heroes (1 of each profession)
-2 new armor sets, for every profession
-Gwen will still remain a mystery
-The map will be north of Ascalon/Kryta, maybe it will be on the same map as the already existing one.
-We finally get to see the elusive Tombs of Drascir

I think we're getting the news April 3rd. If you read Gaile's post, she says they're going to begin shipping March 15th. It's hitting news stands April 3rd.
Just to clarify.

you need reading comprehension 101 very basis.
I SUBSCRIBE
mine has been in the system for days already and if real lucky could get it late today.
Gaile says the 15th is the target date for DELIVERY for subscribers.
the posted dates are NEWSTAND dates since not everybody subscribes.
i always get my issue at least 2 weeks AHEAD of the newstand
just to clarify

Man. I have never felt this much suspense about GW, even when they announced Factions. Its nerve wracking! Tommorow is going to be like an explosion of fury and information as tommorow (hopefully) is when some subscribers that participate on this forum will get the mag, and also the scribe will be releasing info on the special thigns going on this weekend!
Now, I must ask, that please please please, anyone that posts please prove with pics of the mag in hand, as I am quite sure there might be an attempt to hoax it . I don't want to have to wade through all that for the facts.

yes if you do get the mag please post all the info you can, if you can actually be bothered typing the whole article about gw4 would be highly appreciated. lol that way us non-subscribers can read it word for word as if we had the mag ourselves it would take a while but means that we can all continue to discuss whats been said about it in this forum.

I think this whole thread is bs. In q3 2007 the next campaign is a full campaign called Utopia. They aren't making dinky expansions like that.
